The Business Inside: Honda Launching a new 200cc segment Bike, Probably CB Hornet 200R

HMSI (Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India) recently shared a teaser on their Twiter handle regarding the upcoming 200cc segment bike. There are still no details regarding the bike name, but it’s probably going to be CB Hornet 200R. And if not, well, it’s still a 200cc bike. The company also shared a ‘Block Your Date’ invite with Indian Media for 27th August.

It makes more sense to launch CB Hornet Moniker because the BS6 compliant X-Blade already received a massive price hike of INR 17,000. And if they launch a BS6 compliant Hornet 160R, it will make no sense. So the possibility of CB Hornet 200R launch is high. The company claims that it has a racing DNA and will compete with Bajaj NS 200 Pulsar, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, KTM RC200, Bajaj Pulsar RS200, KTM 200 Duke, and other 200cc segment bikes from Hero.

Let me tell you that Hornet 160R did not receive a BS6 upgrade is also missing from the company’s official site for India. Also, the company patented the CBF 190R in India, and hence, the possibility of CB Hornet 200R launch is greater, based on the former. After watching the glimpse of the bike in the teaser, it also looked like Hornet motorbike from the front-end.

In the tweet, the company said, “Some people like to go with the flow. Whereas, some like to challenge the established. They like to have a little power in their hands. For those who believe in going faster, here’s a powerful something. Time to fly against the wind.

We can expect that the bike might have some premium features like an all-LED headlamp, digital instrumentation as shown in the teaser, and there will be smartphone connectivity too if the price range exceeds INR 1.5 Lakhs. About powertrain, the engine of the new Honda 200cc bike might churn out power in the region o 20HP, if it wants to put a tough fight in front of its competitors. So let’s wait for the 27th of August, when the company will unveil its biggest surprise.
